Auto Body Repair FAQs

Auto body repair in Knoxville TN
What is auto body repair?

Auto body repair involves restoring a vehicle’s exterior appearance and structural integrity after damage from collisions, weather, or other impacts. This includes fixing dents, scratches, and repairing or replacing damaged panels and automotive painting.

Do I have to use my auto insurance companie's "preferred" provider for my car's auto body repair needs?

No. After an auto collision it is important to know what you are entitled to. Often insurance company adjusters will not tell you everything you are entitled to in order to save the company money.

They will also generally try to convince you to have the damage repairs completed at a shop that is on their “preferred list”, citing that the insurance company has “approved” the shop and “guarantee” the repairs.
These insurance company/body shop agreements only exist for the benefit of the insurance company to save them money. You have the right to choose any repair shop of your choice. Miller Brothers provides a lifetime warranty on all Collision repairs.
Am I required by the insurance company to get multiple repair estimates?

No. If your insurance company tells you to get multiple estimates, you are not required to do so. That’s a waste of your time and money. Insurance has to pay for a quality repair from where ever you choose to take your vehicle for auto body and collision repairs. You should not be required to “estimate shop” on behalf of your insurance company.

What questions should I ask my auto body repair technician before starting repairs?

It’s wise to ask about the technician’s certifications and experience, the estimated repair timeline, warranty on work and parts, whether they work directly with your insurance, and how they source parts (OEM vs. aftermarket). We have a team of licensed, insured & experienced ASC and I-Car Certified technicians for all your auto repair and collision repair needs.

How long does auto body repair typically take?

The time required depends on the extent of the damage. Minor repairs can often be completed within a day or two, while major collision repairs may take several weeks due to parts ordering and detailed refinishing.

How do I choose a reliable auto body repair shop?

Look for shops with certified technicians, good reviews, and transparent estimates. It’s also beneficial to choose one that works with your insurance company and has a history of quality workmanship. We accept ALL major insurance providers including Geico, Allstate, Farm Bureau and Progressive.

What should I do immediately after an accident?

Ensure everyone’s safety first, contact emergency services if needed, and document the accident with photos and notes. Then, notify your insurance provider and contact a reputable repair shop for an evaluation.

Does my insurance cover auto body repairs?

Many insurance policies cover collision and comprehensive damage, but coverage details—including deductibles and limits—vary. Review your policy or consult your agent to understand your coverage.

Can I file an insurance claim for auto body repair?

Yes. After an accident, you should file a claim with your insurer. The repair shop typically provides an estimate, and the insurance company will help cover the repair costs according to your policy terms.

How much does auto body repair cost?

Costs vary widely depending on the severity of the damage, the type of repairs needed, and the make and model of your vehicle.

What is paintless dent repair (PDR)?

PDR is a technique used to remove minor dents without the need for repainting. It works best on shallow dents where the paint isn’t cracked or chipped, preserving the original finish.

How do I know if my vehicle is safe to drive after a collision?

A thorough inspection by a professional is essential. Technicians assess structural integrity, alignment, and mechanical systems to ensure your vehicle meets safety standards before it’s declared roadworthy.

Do I need to worry about rust or corrosion after repairs?

Quality repairs include measures to prevent future rust and corrosion. However, ongoing exposure to harsh environments may require periodic maintenance like undercoating or rust-proofing.

Can I repair auto body damage without professional help?

While minor scratches or small dents might be fixed with DIY methods, significant damage—especially structural issues—should be addressed by professional technicians to ensure safety and proper repair.

How do I maintain my vehicle’s appearance after repairs?

Regular washing, waxing, and prompt attention to minor scratches or dents help maintain your vehicle’s appearance. Following the repair shop’s care instructions can also extend the life of your car’s finish.

What warranties do auto body repair shops typically offer?

Many shops offer warranties on both parts and labor. Warranties can range from 12 months to lifetime on certain aspects like paintwork, so it’s important to ask about warranty details before the repairs begin.

Are OEM parts better than aftermarket parts?

OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts are designed to match your vehicle’s exact specifications, while aftermarket parts can be a more budget-friendly option. The choice depends on your needs, vehicle age, and warranty considerations.
